COMBINED CONFEDERATE ARMIES
(General J. E. Johnston, C.S.A.)
[#2] Roughly half of both Bee's and Bartow's brigades were still in the Valley, along with the entire Fifth Brigade (Colonel Forney) and the remaining 8 companies of 1st Va. cavalry.
[#3] Theorycally, 13th Va. was part of Fourth Brigade and 6th N.C. was unattached; for sake of simplicity their places has been swapped here.
[#4] Colonel Radford was Chief of the Cavalry of the Army.
[#5] The four detachments of the Washington Artillery Battalion were ad hoc units, not reflecting its four paper companies.
[#6] Initially, 24th Va. was part of Sixth Brigade and 13th Miss. was part of Fourth Brigade, but they swapped places during the battle. For sake of simplicity they are so represented here.
[#7] Serving detached from its parent regiment.
[#8] Formed in mid-July with units detached from other brigades: artillery and cavalry from First, 1st La. Btn. from Fifth, 4th S.C. from Sixth. Colonel Evans was under Cooke's orders.
[#9] Reinforcement from Department of Fredericksburg.
[#10] Actual assignment of these companies unknown. None are mentioned in the battle reports, but they are included in the total strength. Assigning them to the far right flank is my guess.

6-pdr R = 6-pdr Rifle Gun, probably 3.00"
